The doors open upwards. That's the first thing everyone does when they take it out of the box, and it's what makes this set different: Playmobil reproduced the legendary gullwing doors of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with a real hinge, not painted on or merely suggested.

The car comes in racing white with the red number 54 on the bonnet and doors, red interior, whitewall wheels with red rims, chrome grille with the star and the PM-22 70922 number plate. It measures 26 cm: it's not a miniature, it's a piece that claims its place on the shelf.

A 1950s pit-lane set

It doesn't come alone. Playmobil built a period racing scene around the car:
