Playmobil 70578 James Bond Aston Martin DB5 - Goldfinger Edition

Playmobil 70578 James Bond Aston Martin DB5 · Goldfinger Edition

Number plate BMT 216A. That's enough for half the world to know which car we're talking about. The Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger (1964) is, without doubt, the most famous car in film history, and Playmobil has reproduced it under official Aston Martin and 007 licence, in silver, with chrome grille, spoked wheels and round headlights.

But what makes this box special isn't the car. It's the gadgets, and the fact that they really work.

Q's five tricks

• 🔹 Ejector seat — triggered by pressing the exhaust pipes. The passenger shoots out through the roof, just like in the film
• 🔹 Rotating number plates front and back, with three sides each
• 🔹 Bulletproof shield that rises from the boot
• 🔹 Extendable rams on the front bumper
• 🔹 Blades that come out of the wheel hubs

The rear shield comes with moulded bullet impacts. That's the kind of detail that makes adults love this box so much.

The four figures from the film

It's not just a car: you get the complete scene with the four characters from Goldfinger:

• 🔹 James Bond in his suit
• 🔹 Auric Goldfinger in his yellow outfit and hat
• 🔹 Oddjob with black bowler hat — the one with the flying hat
• 🔹 A henchman, the one who ends up flying out through the roof

Discontinued: it won't be back

Playmobil no longer makes this reference. It launched at a retail price of €79.99, and what's left is whatever remains in stock, here and in other shops. With film licences, restocking doesn't depend on Playmobil: it depends on the agreement with the studio being renewed, and that rarely happens.

If you want it sealed, now is the time.
